Michael Shermer

Border at the Rio Grand River, USA

Michael Brant Shermer was born on September 8, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA. He is
a cyclist, media personality, editor, research fellow, adjunct professor, blogger, author
of numerous articles and books about science and history, mainly investigating
pseudoscientific and supernatural theories. He has written at least twenty books.
The Borderlands of Science: Where Sense Meets Nonsense was published in 2001.
This book helps to determine when something is "real science" - such as the big bang
theory - versus just when it is just ridiculous - like Big Foot. Publishersweekly.com
reports that "superstring theory is one of the latest inhabitants of what Shermer . . . calls
the "borderlands" of science: that is, ideas that fall somewhere between established,
likely explanations for reality . . . and pseudoscientific claims . . . . [T]he book provides
grist for the mill of thought and debate."
