Yasunari Kawabata

 


Yasunari Kawabata was born on June 11, 1899 in Osaka, Japan. He was a Japanese
author of novels and short-stories. He has written more than ten books that have
been translated into English. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968,
the first Japanese author to receive the award.
Snow Country was published in serial format from 1935 to 1937 before being published
as a book in 1947 in Japan. It was translated into English by Edward G. Seidensticker 
and published in 1957 in America. Amazon calls it ". . . a powerful tale of wasted love
set amid the desolate beauty of western Japan."
