Kimberly Brubaker Bradley was born on June 24, 1967 in Fort Wayne, IN. She is a research
chemist, the editor of equestrian magazines, and the author of children and young adult
fiction. She has written at least fifteen books.
The War that Saved My Life was published in 2015. It won the Newbury Honor Book award
in 2016. The book tells the story of Ada, who is ten years old and lives in London during
World War II. Ada must overcome many difficulties, and ends up on a farm, bonding with
a pony. In winning the Newbury, the book was described as "the rare novel that can take
something as massive as a world war and distill it to its human essence."
