Anita Diamant was born on June 27, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY. She is a freelance journalist
and author of fiction and non-fiction guides to contemporary Jewish practice. She has
written more than fifteen books and numerous articles.
The Red Tent was published in 1997. It is a fictional interpretation of the life of Dinah,
a minor character from the book of Genesis in the Bible. It was on the New York Times
best seller list, and it was awarded the Booksense Book of the Year in 2001.
The book was also adapted into an A&E/Lifetime mini-series for television in 2014
staring Rebecca Ferguson. The story does not stick closely with either the Bible or history,
but weaves together an interesting connection with the past and a thoughtful consideration
of strength and courage. The Amazon review calls it: "Deeply affecting. The Red Tent
combines rich storytelling and the valuable achievement of presenting a new view
of biblical women's lives."
