Oysters of Locmariaquer was published in 1964. It tells the story of the Belon oyster
in the town of Locmariaquer on the northwest coast of France. The book blends art
and science, folk tales with pedantic facts, hilarious lies with interesting tidbits for
the nature lover. It won the U.S. National Book Foundation's 1965 National Book
Award for Arts and Letters.  The Amazon review calls it ". . . an unforgettable
journey to the heart of a fascinating culture and the enthralling, accumulating
drama of a unique devotion."
