Maurice Sendak

 


Maurice Sendak was born on June 10, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the author and
illustrator of children's books. He has written over a dozen books and
illustrated over sixty books.
Where the Wild Things Are was published in 1963. This book won the Caldecott Medal
in 1964 and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Brightly called it "[a]
timeless classic that continues to win over the hearts of children. The simple,
rhythmic text and expressive illustrations are just as appealing today
as they were when I was a child."
