Being in recovery offers the promise of freedom from active addition. Sometimes, we make the mistake of thinking that there are other guarantees. It is true that some recovering addicts will meet financial success. Others will be able to build loving relationships and create beautiful families. But traditional definitions of happiness are not assured. We came to the program to become clean one day at a time and find the solutions that had eluded us for so long. We need the spiritual wealth that we gain in recovery. For that, we can thank God for our freedom from addiction.
