Adam M. Grant was born on August 13, 1981 in West Bloomfield, MI. He is a magician,
blogger, entrepreneur, professor of organizational behavior at the Wharton School of the
University of Pennsylvania, and the author of numerous academic articles and books on
management and workplace dynamics. He has written or co-written at least four books.
Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives Our Success was published in 2013. It was
a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. This book introduces the idea that
we bring to work different styles of interacting with others: we might be a taker, matcher,
or giver. Grant argues that surprisingly, being a giver can actually bring extraordinary
results across a number of industries. Booklist explains that ". . . added to hard work,
talent, and luck, highly successful people need the ability to connect with others. We
learn that givers give more than they get, takers get more than they give, and matchers
aim to give and get equally; all can succeed. The author's aim is to explain why we
underestimate the success of givers, to explore what separates giver champs from
chumps, and what is unique about giver success."
