W. Scott Corbett was born on July 27, 1913 in Kansas City, MO. He was a journalist,
a soldier, a teacher, and the author of mysteries and adult fiction as well as children's
novels. He wrote more than eighty books.
The Lemonade Trick was published in 1960 and was written mainly for students in the
4th and 5th grades. The book was illustrated by Paul Galdone. The book tells the story
of Kerby, who is given a chemistry set by a quirky older lady he helps out one day in
the park. Using one of the ingredients from the chemistry set and combining it with
lemonade, Kerby makes a wonderful drink that makes people feel good and act counter
to their usual behavior. The Aroma of Books called it ". . . a funny and sweet book,
with a nice ending. . . . It's a fun and light-hearted read."
