Robert Heinlein

 


Robert Anson Heinlein was born on July 7, 1907 in Butler, MI. He was a naval officer,
engineer, stonemason, philanthropist, and author of both youth and
adult science-fiction. He wrote numerous books and articles.
Stranger in a Strange Land was published in 1961. It tells the story of Valentine Michael
Smith, who was born on Mars and comes to Earth when he is a young man. The book won
the 1962 Hugo Award for Best Novel and was the first science-fiction book to be on the
New York Times best seller list. In addition. it was included in the Library of Congress
exhibition of "Books That Shaped America".
